Britain scrambles fighter jets against civilian plane from Pakistan
British authorities on Friday sent fighter jets to escort a plane from Pakistan that's carrying nearly 300 passengers. The Defense Ministry said the Pakistani International Airlines plane was from Lahore and was being diverted from Manchester, Reuters reported. Fox News said the plane was carrying 297 passengers.

Five climbers missing, feared dead at Nepal's Mount Kanchenjunga
Five climbers on Nepal's Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, went missing earlier in the week and are now believed to be dead, a mountaineering chief said on Friday. Two of the climbers were from Hungary, one from South Korea, and the other two, guides from Nepal, The Associated Press reported. They went missing on Monday during their descent.

KABUL, Afghanistan , A loud explosion, followed up by heavy gunfire, was heard in the capital city of Kabul near government buildings on Friday afternoon around 4 p.m local time. An Associated Press cameraman who witnessed the explosion said the blast occurred near a hospital for Afghanistan's intelligence agency, the National Security Directorate.
